👌The most important and useful thing to know! This underwater gun (75 cm) is an ideal purchase for beginner hunters only. Compact, simple, and reliable. More for learning and first experience.

The Evolution of Underwater Hunting: A Dive into the World of Spearguns

Spearguns have long played a crucial role in underwater hunting, enabling divers and spearfishers to catch their prey efficiently and effectively. With roots that date back thousands of years, the art of spearing fish has undergone a significant transformation as technology and engineering advancements have allowed for the development of more sophisticated and specialized spearguns.

Enter the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun, a top contender in the world of underwater hunting. Omer, an Italian company with a rich history dating back to 1971, has been a pioneer in the development of innovative diving and spearfishing equipment. The company’s commitment to quality and performance has helped solidify its reputation as a leading brand in the industry.

Omer’s role in the evolution of spearguns is significant. The company continuously strives to improve and enhance its products by incorporating the latest technology and design innovations. This commitment to excellence is evident in their Cayman series, which showcases the best of Omer’s expertise and craftsmanship.

The Cayman series holds a special place in Omer’s speargun lineup. Offering an excellent balance of power, accuracy, and reliability, these spearguns cater to both beginners and experienced spearfishers alike. The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75, in particular, stands out for its camouflage design, making it perfect for blending into the underwater environment and ensuring a stealthy approach to hunting. Combining Omer’s renowned quality with a highly functional design, the Cayman GI Camu 75 is an exceptional choice for spearfishers looking to up their game.

Power is not the main thing that makes it so impressive. This is also accuracy and shot, which each time flies out with a force equal to a more powerful gun. But this is only 75 cm.

This speargun is serious enough to catch a lot of fish every day, yet easy to use and compact enough to be used by anyone, even a novice angler. The Omer Cayman is the premium model that we will review in this article.

Compact Powerhouse: The Ultimate Guide to the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun

The new model’s barrel has an integrated rail that helps keep the shot trajectory straight, eliminating barrel kinks and side clutter. This system has three fundamental advantages: the speargun remains stable during firing, even when multiple rubber bands are used. The possibility of accidental “slipping” of the underwater gun is excluded.

The recoil characteristic of classic open-muzzle spear guns is practically absent from this model. This prevents energy loss and gives the speargun more power. The speargun is no longer subject to lateral vibrations when exiting the barrel. As a result, the gun has more power and accuracy than comparable spearguns. The increased barrel volume ensures an optimal balance of the gun even with a 7mm spear and when using double rubber bands. The gun is streamlined and maneuverable regardless of length. The camouflage version differs from the usual unique 3D color of the barrel, applied using a special high-temperature technology.

The camouflage version also has an ergonomic grip. The thickness of the aluminum barrel wall is 1.2 mm for models up to 95 cm and 1.5 mm for longer spearguns. This ensures the best balance and rigidity of the barrel. The integrated guide allows the use of spears up to 7 mm thick. The spear inserted into the rail does not need additional fixation. During the shot, the rubber bands run strictly parallel to the barrel and do not rub against it. The new design of the close muzzle allows for the use of one or two rubber bands.

Unlock the Full Potential: Maximizing the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun’s Capabilities

This speargun is slightly different from similar models. So it will take you some time to get used to it. But believe me, all the surprises and inconveniences at the first stage will justify themselves later.

I have a 75cm Omer Cayman GI speargun and I must say I’m very impressed. It is much easier to maneuver and lighter underwater, but still has the same accuracy as 100-115 cm spearguns. Because of this, the price of this gun is above average, but in return, you get a very high range, accuracy, and lightness.

Besides, this model is quite versatile. The track on the top fits all shafts up to 6.5mm, which also reduces whiplash during the shot. What I especially like is the very low recoil even when using heavy-duty or dual bands. The design of this model evenly distributes energy throughout the body and only part of the recoil from the shot reaches the shooter.

The Price

The price of this speargun will vary depending on the length you want to buy. The Cayman 75 is the third-longest speargun, only 50 cm and 60 cm shorter than the model. Therefore, they are inexpensive compared to longer models.

Comfort and Control: Exploring the Ergonomic Handle and Trigger Mechanism

Handle Omer Cayman GI Camu 75

Feature Explanation
Ergonomic Design The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75’s handle boasts an ergonomic design, offering a comfortable grip and natural hand positioning for improved control and precision.
Material and Construction Constructed from robust, high-quality materials, the handle and trigger mechanism are designed to withstand the pressures of underwater hunting and ensure a long lifespan for the speargun.
Trigger Sensitivity and Safety The Cayman GI Camu 75 features a highly sensitive trigger system for smooth and precise firing, as well as a safety mechanism to prevent accidental discharge, ensuring the safety of both the user and the marine environment.

Cayman handles can withstand enormous stresses as they are made entirely of stainless steel. The grip angle is comfortable and ergonomic despite the high handle position. Options are available for both left and right hands. I like that the handle is made in bright white light. Thanks to this, it is very easy for me to search for a gun underwater, even in conditions of low transparency. The only thing that bothered me was the size of the loading area. But you can easily get used to it or replace it if you want.

Crafting the Perfect Barrel: Materials, Dimensions, and Hydrodynamics

Feature Explanation
Material Used The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 features an aluminum barrel, offering lightweight yet sturdy and durable construction, as well as resistance to corrosion and underwater wear.
Length and Diameter With a 75 cm length, the Cayman GI Camu 75 is ideal for divers seeking a compact and agile speargun for close-quarters hunting or navigating tight spaces. The barrel diameter is designed for optimal strength while reducing drag underwater.
Hydrodynamic Design The speargun’s hydrodynamic profile ensures smooth and effortless movement through the water, reducing turbulence, and allowing for stability and control while aiming and shooting.

Mastering the Muzzle: Design Choices and Band Compatibility

Muzzle Omer Cayman GI Camu Speargun

Feature Explanation
Open or closed muzzle design The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 features an open muzzle design, which allows for easier spear loading and better visibility for aiming. This design also results in a faster and more streamlined reloading process.
Line Anchor System The speargun’s line anchor system ensures easy and secure attachment of the shooting line, preventing tangling and providing a smooth release of the spear upon firing.
Compatibility with various bands The open muzzle design of the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 is compatible with various band configurations, enabling spearfishers to customize the speargun’s power and performance according to their specific needs and preferences.

Everything here is like a traditional gun. The muzzle is closed, equipped with 16 mm rubber bands. But they are very tight and hard to reload. I couldn’t use them. Therefore, I recommend that you immediately change them to thinner elastic bands. You can also put a second ring tape here up to 16mm. Thanks to the high handle, guide, and built-in stabilizer, recoil is minimal even with loaded double rubber bands. Most of the time you won’t even feel the recoil in your hand.

The Barrel

Barrel Omer Cayman Speargun

The 75 cm model is made of anodized aluminum, but at the final stage of production, the manufacturer also puts a guide on the entire length of the barrel, which makes shooting much easier. This speargun feels very solid when I shoot, and there is no “shaft whip” that makes my spear fly higher than the target like other spearguns.

There is a handy safety catch at the bottom of the handle that will save you from an unnecessary or accidental shot. There is also a place to attach a coil and quickly recharge it. But this speargun only work with special transparent or black lines, you can’t put a cord here. This design works well with fishing lines, as any line will slow down the arrow when fired.

Band System and Shaft

Unleashing Power: The Art of Choosing the Right Bands

👌Types of bands: The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 is compatible with various types of bands, including standard circular bands and screw-in bands, offering flexibility in choosing the band type that best suits the user’s preferences and underwater hunting needs.

🔷Power and accuracy of the bands: The Cayman GI Camu 75’s band system delivers a powerful and accurate shot, ensuring efficient energy transfer and increased chances of landing a successful hit on the target.

🔷Easy-loading design: The open muzzle design of the speargun facilitates an easy and swift loading process, making it more convenient for spearfishers to prepare for the next shot.

The Backbone of Precision: A Look at the Shaft’s Construction and Features

🔷Material and construction: The shaft of the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 is made from high-quality stainless steel, offering strength, durability, and corrosion resistance, essential for withstanding the challenging conditions of underwater hunting.

🔷Length, diameter, and weight: The shaft measures 6.5mm in diameter, providing a balanced combination of stability and penetration power. Its length is designed to complement the speargun’s 75 cm barrel, while its weight ensures a smooth and accurate trajectory.

🔷Shaft tips and floppers: The Cayman GI Camu 75’s shaft comes with a single flopper tip, providing a reliable and effective holding mechanism for the captured prey. The flopper design reduces the risk of losing a fish during retrieval, ensuring a higher success rate in underwater hunting.

👌Personally, I find it convenient to use the spears that come with the kit. But many of my friends say that they often bend or they lose fish, especially large ones with spears in the kit. Therefore, if you like to hunt bigger fish, then I advise you to change spears.

Performance and Accuracy

Distance and Penetration: The Hallmarks of a Powerful Speargun

Effective shooting distance: The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun boasts an effective shooting range of up to 3-4 meters, making it suitable for close-range hunting and targeting small to medium-sized species in various underwater environments. Penetration capability: The speargun’s power, combined with the high-quality stainless steel shaft, ensures excellent penetration capabilities, allowing spearfishers to effectively capture their target with minimal risk of losing the prey.

The Pursuit of Perfection: Achieving Exceptional Accuracy with the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75

Factors affecting accuracy: The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75’s accuracy can be influenced by factors such as band tension, proper loading technique, user’s skill level, and environmental conditions like water visibility and current.

👌Tips for improving accuracy with the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun:

  • Practice regularly to develop familiarity with the speargun’s balance, trigger sensitivity, and aiming process.
  • Ensure proper band tension and loading technique for optimal energy transfer and shot consistency.
  • Maintain a stable body position during aiming and shooting, using your legs and core muscles to steady yourself in the water.
  • Take environmental factors into account, such as visibility and current, and adjust your aiming strategy accordingly.

Precision Under Pressure: The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun’s Recipe for Success

This gun is incredible to use. I certainly expected it to be powerful after purchase, but not that much. The range of the Omer Cayman GI Camu is incredible. Even in the 75 cm version, it is quite capable of hitting large fish. This is what you need if you are looking for a short but powerful speargun. The barrel design balances the weight of the gun and will float alongside you in the water as soon as you fire.

In addition to speed and power, this speargun has incredible precision. Sure, loading this gun is quite exhausting for you, but that makes up for the power these tight bands give you. I also found that my arrow flies in a straight line after being fired, so I had to relearn to aim straight and not a little lower than I’m used to on other spearguns.

Navigating Tight Spaces: Omer Cayman Camu 75 Pros & Cons

Omer Cayman Camu 75 Speargun

  • Best for beginners and irreplaceable when traveling.

  • Very lightweight and comfortable.

  • Can be used as a spare for the main gun.

  • Reliable, durable. Strong plastic.

  • Doesn’t give a return – it’s important to hit the target.

  • It is good to hunt with one powerful rubber band. If there are two bands, then you can achieve significant power.

  • A closed muzzle perfectly holds the spear during loading.

  • I could not use the standard rubber bands – they are very tight and require huge effort to charge.

  • Works only with special lines (transparent, black), not cords (kevlar, nylon, etc.) for connection with spear and gun.

  • To change the fishing line every 5 hunts, you need to buy a tool – a crimp and aluminum bushings.

  • Be sure to equip with a shock absorber otherwise the line breaks.

Caring and Maintenance

Safekeeping Secrets: Tips for Proper Storage and Transportation

Always store the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent damage and degradation of the materials. Use a speargun bag or protective case to transport the speargun safely and securely, preventing any accidental damage to the equipment or harm to yourself and others.

Keep It Clean: Regular Maintenance for Optimal Performance

After each use, rinse the speargun thoroughly with fresh water to remove salt, sand, and other debris. This will help prevent corrosion and maintain the speargun’s optimal performance.
Regularly lubricate the trigger mechanism, shaft, and other moving parts with a silicone-based lubricant to ensure smooth operation and reduce friction, preventing wear and tear on the components.

Staying Sharp: Inspecting and Replacing Parts for a Long-Lasting Speargun

Periodically inspect the bands, shaft, trigger mechanism, and other parts of the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Early detection of any issues will help prevent equipment failure during use. Replace worn or damaged parts promptly to maintain the speargun’s performance and ensure your safety during underwater hunting. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and recommendations for replacement intervals and parts compatibility.

Comparing the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun to Competitors

The Battle of the Brands: Omer Versus the Competition

🔷Comparison with other Omer spearguns: The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 is a more compact and agile speargun compared to larger models within the Omer lineup. The shorter length and lightweight design make it an excellent choice for hunting in tight spaces and shallow waters. However, more experienced spearfishers seeking greater power and range may consider other Omer models, such as the Cayman E.T. or the Omer Invictus.

🔷Comparison with other brands: While the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 is a reliable and well-built speargun, it faces competition from other popular brands such as Cressi, Mares, and Beuchat. When comparing the Cayman GI Camu 75 to other spearguns in the same category, factors such as design, performance, and price should be considered. Each brand offers unique features and advantages, so personal preference will play a role in the final choice.

Making the Right Choice: Factors to Consider When Choosing a Speargun

Factor Explanation

Diving Conditions The Cayman GI Camu 75 is ideal for shallow waters and confined spaces. For deep waters or strong currents, choose a more robust speargun with additional features.
Skill Level and Personal Preference Beginners may prefer the shorter, more manageable Cayman GI Camu 75, while experienced spearfishers may opt for a more powerful model. Test different spearguns to find one that feels comfortable and suits your specific needs and preferences.

FAQs: Discover the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun

Many users often ask questions related to Omer Caiman spearguns. Below we have answered the most popular ones.

How are Omer Caiman spearguns different from other brands?

The main feature of the entire family of Cayman guns is the presence of the Omer Cayman branded handle. What makes this handle different is that it uses an all-metal trigger mechanism with a metal line ejector and design. If you take a closer look at the photographs, you will see that the handle is raised as far as possible relative to the barrel line. Accordingly, when you aim somewhere, your hand is parallel to the barrel. Recoil goes back, not down. This allows you to avoid the “flip” effect and direct the arrow exactly at the target.

Also, in Cayman spearguns, the mechanism that holds the rubber bands is all-mechanical. This means it has a much longer life than other spearguns. The line ejector in the Cayman spearguns is also metal.

How is the GI version of this speargun different from other models?
The main difference between the GI version and other models is the chute integrated into the barrel along the entire length. Thanks to this, the gun does not bend even under the two most powerful rubber bands. Also, the barrel of this speargun is made of higher quality Innex steel, and the grip on elastic bands is not wire, but articulated.
Why do you need a metal guide along the entire length of the barrel?
When you load your speargun, especially with long rubber bands, they put a lot of pressure on the ends of the speargun. Because of this, many guns flex down a little with it and when you shoot it straightens out sharply. And even if you aim very accurately, the gun sends your spear slightly below the trajectory along which you aimed. The guide allows you to avoid such situations and keep your spear straight at all times. Thanks to this, you will be able to hit the target accurately and much more often without misses.
Can I upgrade my Omer Cayman Sport to Cayman G.I?
Yes, almost all Cayman guns are easily modified and tuned. To upgrade your sport gun to G.I. you need to change the rubber bands to more powerful ones, stick a guide on the barrel, which Omer sells separately, and change the wire hook on the rubber bands to an articulated one. Instead of buying an articulated hold at the store, you can simply throw away your wire and replace it with a rope hold made from a material like Dyneema, which is now gaining popularity. Such a hold will easily perform the same tasks as an articulated one, but you will spend less money.
Is the Cayman GI 75 really good?
This is a great speargun that outperforms many flagships 110-120cm spearguns from other brands in terms of power and accuracy. You can easily customize it, change the rubber bands to make it more powerful, or attach a different rail for more accuracy. If you have enough money to buy yourself a GI 75 Kamo, then be sure that you will not regret the money spent even once. Because this gun will bring you much more fish, fun, and enjoyment!
Is the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 suitable for beginners?
Yes, the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 is a great choice for beginners due to its manageable size, lightweight design, and user-friendly features.
What type of fish is the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 best suited for?
The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 is ideal for hunting small to medium-sized fish commonly found in shallow waters and tight spaces.
Can I use different band configurations with the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun?
Yes, the open muzzle design allows for compatibility with multiple band configurations, enabling you to customize the speargun’s power and performance according to your preferences.
How do I maintain and care for my Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun?
Proper care includes regular cleaning and lubrication, inspecting and replacing parts as needed, and storing the speargun in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
What kind of reel can I use with the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun?
The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 is compatible with several Omer-recommended reels, providing you with various options to choose from based on your needs and preferences.
Can I use universal speargun accessories with the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun?
Yes, the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 is compatible with a range of universal speargun accessories, in addition to Omer-specific accessories.
How does the Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun compare to other spearguns in its class?
The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 offers a unique combination of agility, durability, and performance, making it a strong competitor among other spearguns in its class. However, the best speargun for you will ultimately depend on factors such as target species, diving conditions, and personal preferences.

Its hydrodynamic profile allows for smooth movement underwater and increased accuracy, making it an ideal choice for spearfishing enthusiasts of various skill levels.

The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 is well-suited for hunting small to medium-sized fish in confined spaces and shallow waters. It is an excellent choice for beginners looking for a manageable speargun to build their skills, as well as experienced spearfishers in need of a lightweight and versatile option for specific hunting situations.

The Omer Cayman GI Camu 75 Speargun is a reliable and effective tool for underwater hunters. We encourage you to give this speargun a try and experience its many benefits first-hand. With the right equipment and practice, you can confidently explore the underwater world, hone your spearfishing skills, and enjoy the thrill of the hunt.

All in all, this is a decent speargun. It feels a bit like a compound bow when you fire a shot and you get 2-3 times more power than you expected. I fired several shots in a row while fishing and didn’t feel the recoil like on other guns.

Underwater, it is incredibly light and maneuverable, the only thing you need to practice is to learn how to aim in a straight line, as this speargun is perfectly stabilized and does not let the spear go up or down. The gun works great with 16mm rubber bands as standard, but for most anglers, they are quite tight. So when you put lighter rubber bands on it, it feels incredibly light.

This gun will have a place in my boat due to its reliability, balance, lightness, and accuracy. I have never seen such a powerful gun with such a small barrel length. This is an excellent choice for every angler, regardless of their skills and experience. It will work well in the hands of a beginner as well as in the hands of an experienced diver.

When I bought the Omer Cayman 75 Speargun, I couldn’t charge it underwater either. Those pulls that came with it are short and stiff. But they give a powerful launch velocity to the arrow when fired. In order to use it, I studied the classic loading of these guns. It is necessary to place the butt of the gun strictly on the chest of the hunter. With this position, the speargun is easy enough to pull the rubber rods 2.5 or 3 times in length as it uses all the strength of the hands. Try it and you will succeed.

Much of what is written I agree with. A lot of it is interesting. The plastic muzzle of this Omer Cayman Camu 75 Speargun has sharp edges. After the shot, the arrow and line attachment point (2mm) hits those edges and rub. I change the line every two hunts. This applies to all guns with a closed muzzle. Other than that, I am happy with my gun.

I have been using this underwater crossbow for three years now. I am happy. Very small and shoots well even at 10 meters depth. I got used to it. I upgraded: I put a powerful second rubber band with a wire attachment (V-shape Connector Wishbone ) instead of the complicated standard attachment of the metal bracket.

I’ve found that the Omer Cayman G.I. 75 speargun is a fantastic choice for spearfishing in tight spaces and holes, thanks to its 75 cm length which greatly improves maneuverability. Not only is it precise, powerful, sensitive, and quiet, but it’s also resistant to corrosion, making it durable for long-term use.

This speargun is crafted with a rigid circular aluminum barrel and has an integrated shaft guide, which increases the accuracy of shots. The latex Cayman handle is super ergonomic, offering a comfortable, progressive, and elastic grip. Plus, the trigger mechanism is made of stainless steel, making it ultra-sensitive.

I appreciate the closed hydrodynamic muzzle, which allows the use of the Performer 2 circular rubber of 16 mm. The speargun comes with a 6.5 mm Inox shaft, perfect for fishing in murky and low-visibility waters. Interestingly, the Cayman GI is similar to the Cayman 2000, but with a different barrel.

In conclusion, the Omer Cayman GI 75 speargun is a top-notch option for anyone looking to enhance their spearfishing experience in confined spaces.

I recently had a similar issue where the sling on my speargun broke at the metal part that connects to the slit in the spear. I was initially unsure if it was possible to replace the sling, but after some research, I discovered that you can definitely buy replacement slings.

If anyone has experience with this, I’d really appreciate some guidance on how to replace a sling and which slings would be compatible with my Omer Cayman speargun. Alternatively, is it possible to simply replace the metal part that connects the slings on both sides (the one that goes into the notch on the spear)? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I agree, I also had a great experience with my old OMER Excalibur. It was my first speargun and I bought it second-hand for $180. It served me well for a solid 4-5 years.

As I started targeting bigger species and my diving skills progressed, I didn’t need that particular gun anymore, and for some reason, I haven’t purchased any more OMER spearguns since.

My main issue with their guns was the requirement to buy euro rubbers, which screwed into the muzzle of the gun and the bridles. This meant that making your own rubbers wasn’t an option, and the replacement cost was around $80 instead of the more typical $20-30. However, I believe they have since changed their muzzle design, so I’d recommend avoiding guns that only take those rubbers.

OMER is a well-respected brand in Europe, and they produce some excellent gear. I found their OMER millennium fins to be fantastic, and their mimetic wetsuits offer outstanding quality with a cut and fit that suits my body shape.

Overall, they’re a high-quality brand, and I think you’re definitely on the right track by considering their gear.

I totally agree that OMER is known for its high-quality and efficient gear. In fact, OMERSUB’s first designer was an engineer from Beretta, which speaks to the level of design quality that goes into their guns. I’ve heard great things about the MB2000 graphite barrel gun as well.

During a spearing trip to Italy, someone had the chance to try out the T20 and the HF2 (pressure-formed aluminum), and both guns were reportedly impressive. As for OMER guns’ power, they have a nice balance between power and accuracy, but they might not be the best choice for hunting large fish like tuna. Their spears tend to be thinner and can bend when dealing with a 15-20lb fish.

For offshore/boat divers targeting bigger fish, a more robust gun like a Rob Allen railgun or a Mako could be more suitable. These guns are ideal for larger prey and have spring steel spears that are extremely strong. However, if you typically dive from the shore, an OMER or European-style gun might be a better option, as they’re lightweight, well-balanced, and extremely accurate.

It’s worth mentioning that some spears who go after bigger prey prefer using C4 spearguns, but they can be quite expensive, typically in the $800 range.

One person I know has a 115cm Cayman ET, although they don’t use it very often. On the other hand, two of their friends have 105 and 95 models of the same speargun and use them as their primary guns.

It seems that these are very nice spearguns, known for shooting straight, gliding well, and having no mechanical problems thus far. Omer is definitely a reputable brand, and the person I mentioned has had a great experience with their other Omer products, such as a mask, snorkel, Sporasub wetsuit, and more.

While Omer products might be a bit pricey, they offer good quality gear. However, the one thing they wouldn’t recommend from Omer is their freediving watch, which costs $400 for a rebadged Latitude. They found a similar computer branded “Pyle” for just $89.
