In my experience, Okuma offers some good quality bait casters, but unfortunately, they don’t cast very well. However, I do appreciate the Stainless Steel gears in the Okuma Komodo. The only downside is that the spool support isn’t as strong as I would like it to be. If it had been, it would have been the most durable reel at that price point.
On the other hand, I absolutely love Okuma’s Taiwanese reels, particularly the Okuma Makaira. This reel is made with Stainless Steel components and it will probably last for several decades. I believe it’s even better than the Shimano Stella SW and Daiwa Saltiga reel. The Okuma Makaira is simply outstanding!
