If you’re having trouble resetting the line counter, it might be because there’s something caught in the gears. In that case, you’ll need to take the downrigger apart and clean it out. I hope that helps!
Answer: The line counter on a Cannon downrigger can be reset by following these steps:
1) Open the bail arm.
2) Unscrew the line release knob and remove the line spool.
3) Turn the black cap at the top of the spool counterclockwise for about one turn. This will release the reset spring.
4) Replace the line spool and line release knob, making sure that the arrow on the knob points in the direction of travel. Screw on the knob until it’s tight.
5) Close bail arm.

Once all of the lines has been spooled out, engage the brake by pushing in on the lever. Finally, use a pencil or other sharp object to press and hold down the reset button located on top of the downrigger for 5 seconds. This will reset your line counter back to zero.
Next, locate the reset button on the back of the unit. Once you’ve found the reset button, press and hold it for three seconds. After a few moments, you should see the line counter reset to zero.
