First, make a loop at the end of the line and insert the float into the loop. Next, take the tag end of the line and wrap it around the standing part of the line several times. Finally, tuck it behind the float and pull tight.
The most important thing is to make sure that the float is in the right spot. The float should be above the bait but not too high, or else it will be difficult to cast and you won’t be able to tell when you have a bite. It’s also important to make sure that your line is balanced so that the bait sits at the same depth as the fish you’re targeting.
Next, wrap about 6 inches of line around your index finger and hold it tight. Insert your thumb into the loop you just created and pull up on both lines until the knot slips off your thumb. Now, re-knot the line just below the float to secure it in place.
Another way to attach a float to a fishing line is by using a small piece of tubing called a “float sleeve”. The floating sleeve is slid over the line and then the float is inserted into one end of the sleeve. The other end of the sleeve is then squeezed shut, securing the float in place.
