1. Remove the bail arm by unclipping it from the body of the reel and pulling it straight off.
2. Remove the four screws on the side of the reel that hold the cover in place.
3. Gently lift up the cover to remove it and expose the inner workings of the reel.
4. You can now disconnect all of the internal parts – namely, the spool, drive gear, and main shaft – by pushing them out from one end (usually there is a small hole or opening at one end that they will push out through). Take care not to lose any of the small parts, as they can be difficult to replace.
5. Once all of the internal parts are removed, you can clean them individually and then reassemble the reel by following the above steps in reverse order.
1. Begin by removing the spool – this is usually done by unscrewing a knob or cap at the front of the reel (left-hand side when looking at it from the back). With the spool removed, take out anyDrag washers that may sit behind it – these usually just pop out. You will also need to remove any brake blocks if your reel has them (some models don’t). These are located on either side of the spool and are held in place by screws.
2. With the spool out, you should now be able to see the main shaft running through the center of the reel. This is what the handle attaches to. In order to remove the handle, unscrew the knob at the back of the reel (the right-hand side when looking at it from the back) and pull the handle straight off.
3. With the handle removed, you can now unscrew the nut that holds the main shaft in place (this is located on the left-hand side when looking at it from the back). Once this nut is removed, the main shaft can be pulled out from the right-hand side.
4. You should now be able to see the gears located inside the reel. These are what make the handle turn when your fishing line is being pulled out. In order to remove these, unscrew the two screws that hold them in place (one on each side). With the screws removed, the gears can simply be lifted out.
5. To access the bearings, you will need to remove the side plate from the reel. This is usually done by unscrewing two screws that hold it in place (one on each side). With the side plate removed, the bearings will be exposed and can be cleaned or replaced as needed.
6. Once everything has been cleaned or replaced, you can begin the process of reassembling the reel. Start by putting the bearings back in place and then screwing the side plate back on. Next, insert the main shaft from the right-hand side and screw the nut back on to hold it in place.
7. Now you can put the gears back in place and screw them in. After that, insert the handle and screw the knob back on to hold it in place.
8. Finally, replace the spool by screwing it back onto the main shaft. Be sure to put any Drag washers and brake blocks back in place before doing so. And that’s it – your reel should now be back together and ready to use!
Once you have everything ready, start by removing the spool assembly from the body of the reel (1). Next, unscrew the handle knob and remove it along with the e-ring and washer (2). With those parts removed, you should now be able to pull the handle out from the body of the reel (3).
Now it’s time to remove the main shaft. Begin by unscrewing the nut that holds it in place (4) and then pull the shaft out from the right side of the reel (5). With the main shaft removed, you should now be able to see the gears located inside the reel (6).
To remove the gears, unscrew the two screws that hold them in place (7) and then lift them out (8). With the gears removed, you should now have access to the bearings (9). To clean or replace the bearings, simply remove the side plate from the reel (10) and then proceed as needed.
Once everything has been cleaned or replaced, you can begin the process of reassembling the reel. Start by putting the bearings back in place and then screwing the side plate back on. Next, insert the main shaft from the right-hand side and screw the nut back on to hold it in place.
