To make your own bottom floating bait, start by cutting a small piece of cork to the desired size and shape. Next, drill a small hole in the center of the cork using a sharp object like a nail or needle.
Finally, thread some fishing line through the hole and tie it off securely. Your bottom floating bait is now ready to use! Experiment with different colors and materials to create your own unique fishing lures.
To make a floating bottom bait, start with a good-quality pellet. Soak the pellets in water for 10-15 minutes to soften them, then press them into a bait mold or your hands to form balls or shapes. Once you have your baits formed, set them aside to air dry for several hours or overnight.
Once they are dry, you can either boil them in water for 5-10 minutes to harden them or coat them with a bait sealant. Bait sealants will not only provide a barrier against moisture and oxygen but will also help the baits float. Allow the baits to cure for 24 hours before using them.
One method is to tie a piece of fishing line or string around the middle of the bait fish, and then attach weights to the ends of the line. This will cause the bait fish to hang vertically in the water, with its head and tail both pointing up.
Another method is to drill a hole through the bait fish’s mouth and out through its stomach, and then thread a piece of fishing line or wire through the hole. Attach weights to each end of the line, and this will also cause the bait fish to hang vertically in the water.
Yet another method is to tie a piece of fishing line or string around the bait fish’s middle and then attach a weight to the bottom of the line. This will cause the bait fish to swim upside down, with its head pointing down and it’s tail pointing up.
Which method you use is up to you, but all of these methods will result in a bottom floating bait fish.
Another method is to put a small amount of baking soda in the bait container and then wet the bait before putting it on the hook. The baking soda makes the bait rise to the surface.
Another way is to fill the bait with foam or other buoyant material.
And yet another way is to create a convex shape on the bottom of the bait, which will cause it to float upright when placed in water.
You can also use a jig head with a weighted hook to keep your bait in place. Whichever method you choose, be sure to adjust your fishing tackle accordingly so that you’re not casting your bait too far from where you want it to stay.
