As for the bait itself, anything from earthworms to small fish will work well. You can either thread it onto the hook directly or put it in a small container and then put the hook through the top. Be sure to keep your bait fresh by putting it back in the water as often as possible.
The weight will sink the line to the bottom while the bait hangs off the end of the hook just above the bait. You can also use a slip sinker rig, where you tie your main line to a small barrel or egg sinker and then run your fishing line through the hole in the sinker. This way, you can adjust how much weight is on your line by moving the sinker up and down on your main line.
To bait your hook, first, thread the bait onto the hook. Then hold the hook in one hand and use the other hand to twist the weight on to the end of the line. Finally, cast your line out into the water and wait for a fish to bite!
Once you have your weight in place, tie on your hook and bait. Place the bait on the hook so that it will tempt the fish to take a bite. Cast your line out and wait for a bite!
