Upon receiving my order, I was disappointed to see that the shipping box had already been opened. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the next-day delivery and the fantastic reel inside. I opted for the higher line capacity version, the Abu Garcia T2 BST60-HS, which is noticeably bigger and heavier than my other reels, the Abu Garcia Revo Premier Gen3 and Shimano Chronarch Ci4+.
Although The Beast is not as easy to palm as my other reels, I quickly adjusted and found comfortable hand positions. Despite its weight, I was able to drift fish for several hours without getting fatigued. I paired The Beast with a St. Croix 9’6″ heavy rod and was able to easily subdue a couple of 15lb king salmon in a small, snag-infested river.
The drag on The Beast is impressively smooth and wore out the kings quickly. I had to tighten down the drag during a hard charge, and it responded well. Overall, The Beast is a great reel that exceeded my expectations.
